To work in conjunction with a health services researcher to conduct an analysis (using claims and medical records data) to assess the value of infectious diseases specialists involvement in the care of patients with certain infectious diagnoses (including complications) and across the settings of care when transitions occur—possible diagnoses to examine as part this analysis include endocarditis, encephalitis, meningitis, ventilator-associated pneumonia, multi-drug resistant organisms, prosthetic joint infections, HIV/AIDS, and staphylococcus aureus bacteremia. The study would ideally assess infectious diseases specialists’ impact on the cost and quality of patient care using risk-adjusted length of stay, episode costs, and 30 day readmission rates.
