Appraisal of Guidelines Research and Evaluation (AGREE)

Education
Forum for Collaborative HIV Research – HCV Drug Resistance Slide Set.jpg?n=1977)
Recognizing the need for education regarding HCV drug resistance, the Forum for Collaborative HIV Research's HCV Drug Development Advisory Group (academicians, clinicians, researchers and patient advocates) have contributed to a slide deck explaining resistance in HCV, its consequences as well as its mitigation. The slide deck explains important drug resistance concepts in HCV, including:
- how resistance can arise before, during and after stopping therapy;
- the mechanism of action of direct acting antivirals (DAAs) and their effects on viral kinetics and the possibility of cure;
- how mutations lead to changes which makes the virus resistant to DAAs;
- viral, drug and patient factors that influence treatment outcomes.
This educational slide deck is intended for use by a diverse audience ranging from health care providers involved with evaluating, diagnosing and treating HCV, HCV patients who want to learn about the disease and treatment options, and HCV advocates in the community who may use the slides in their education outreach efforts. For more information about the Forum, please visit: www.hivforum.org.

Guidelines by Other Organizations
Centers for Disease Control – National Center for Infectious Diseases
The mission of the National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID) is to prevent illness, disability, and death caused by infectious diseases in the United States and around the world.
The NCID develops evidence-based infectious disease guidelines for use in healthcare and public health settings.
U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF)
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), first convened by the U.S. Public Health Service in 1984, and since 1998 sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), is the leading independent panel of private-sector experts in prevention and primary care. The USPSTF conducts rigorous, impartial assessments of the scientific evidence for the effectiveness of a broad range of clinical preventive services, including screening, counseling, and preventive medications. Its recommendations are considered the "gold standard" for clinical preventive services.
The mission of the USPSTF is to evaluate the benefits of individual services based on age, gender, and risk factors for disease; make recommendations about which preventive services should be incorporated routinely into primary medical care and for which populations; and identify a research agenda for clinical preventive care.

Clearinghouses/Databases
Guidelines International Network (G-I-N)
The Guidelines International Network (G-I-N) is an international not-for-profit association of organisations and individuals involved in clinical practice guidelines. G-I-N seeks to improve the quality of health care by promoting systematic development of clinical practice guidelines and their application into practice, through supporting international collaboration. G-I-N’s Guideline Library contains regularly-updated information about guidelines of the G-I-N membership.
Health Services/Technology Assessment Text (HSTAT)
HSTAT is a searchable collection of large, full-text clinical practice guidelines, technology assessments and health information.
National Guidelines Clearinghouse (NGC)
The National Guidelines Clearinghouse is a public resource for evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. NGC is an initiative of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. NGC was originally created by AHRQ in partnership with the American Medical Association and America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP).

Systematic Reviews/Evidence Reports
Cochrane Collaboration
The Cochrane Library consists of a regularly updated collection of evidence-based medicine databases, including The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews.
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) – Evidence-based Practice Centers
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality promotes evidence-based practice in everyday care through establishment of 15 evidence-based Practice Centers. The EPCs develop evidence reports and technology assessments on topics relevant to clinical, social science/behavioral, economic and other health care organization and delivery issues — specifically those that are common, expensive and/or significant for the Medicare and Medicaid populations. With this program, AHRQ became a "science partner" with private and public organizations in their efforts to improve the quality, effectiveness and appropriateness of clinical care by facilitating the translation of evidence-based research findings into clinical practice.
