About Seasonal and Pandemic Influenza 2008
Petition to attend and join other invited colleagues in health care, government, and professional associations to discuss:
- The international impact of pandemic and seasonal influenza
- New pandemic and seasonal influenza planning strategies—including the role of state and public health officials
- The improvement of public-private sector coordination efforts—particularly related to vaccine developments
As in the past two years, the meeting will identify domestic scientific and policy developments. This year will also include a day to discuss specific needs of resource-poor countries. The meeting will result in recommendations for future research and intervention for unmet needs, and in recommendations for how the developing world can address pandemic priorities. Community mitigation, mainly designed for industrialized nations that are able to afford pharmaceutical interventions, will also be discussed for possible implementation in resource-limited countries. Global attendees and speakers will include members of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), state and local health officials, policymakers and other stakeholders.
IDSA and the Program Committee have deemed it necessary to limit the amount of participants for The Seasonal and Pandemic Influenza 2008 meeting, and individuals must receive a formal invitation to attend.* Please see Petition to Attend for more information.
This meeting is endorsed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID); the Influenza Coordination Unit, Coordinating Center for Infectious Diseases, CDC; the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA); and the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (PIDS).

Petition to Attend
The DEADLINE for attendees to petition to attend and register has now passed.
Due to the size and scope of the meeting, IDSA and the Program Committee have deemed it necessary to limit the number of participants. To register, an individual must be officially invited or they must petition to attend. Those who petition will be asked for (1) basic contact information; (2) to explain their past experience and/or current work relevance to the meeting agenda; (3) and, if invited, whether they anticipate submitting a poster abstract. The Program Committee will review petition submissions and grant or deny admission to the meeting. Consideration will be given to those who petition and also plan to submit an abstract.
