    IDSA has developed Evaluation and Management (E&M) coding resources specific to the practice of infectious diseases (ID). Given that ID physicians provide more of these services than almost any other specialty, understanding the E&M coding rules will help to maximize payments and minimize audit risk.     IDSA 's Billing and Coding Updates 2013 webinar provides information relating to the ID practice concerning the topics of Fecal Microbiota Therapy, Transitional Care Management, Complex Chronic Care Coordination, and Care Management Oversight.

    Understanding Medicare's Consultations Decision (PDF)
    Provides information on how ID physicians should bill for their services in lieu of Medicare’s decision to eliminate payments for the consultation codes.

    1995 Documentation Guidelines for E&M Services (PDF)
    Provides definitions and documentation guidelines for the three key components of E&M services and for visits which consist predominately of counseling or coordination of care.  

    1997 Documentation Guidelines for E&M Services (PDF)
    Provides a greater level of detail for the E&M documentation requirements governing general multi-system and single organ system examinations.
