Group A Streptococcal Pharyngitis Guideline Podcast

MP3In this audio podcast, Stanford Shulman, MD, discusses IDSA’s Clinical Practice Guideline for the Diagnosis and Management of Group A Streptococcal Pharyngitis. Dr. Shulman talks about diagnosis and the role and appropriateness of throat culture and rapid antigen tests. Dr. Shulman also discusses recommendations for children and adults with a negative rapid antigen result, testing in children 3 years of age and younger as well as follow-up testing. Treatment recommendations for individuals with and without penicillin allergies and frequent recurrent infections are also touched on.

The discussion is hosted by Neil S. Skolnik, professor of family and community medicine at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and Associate Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program at Abington Memorial Hospital.
