Drug Shortages

IDSA has heard reports from members who are experiencing shortages of certain drugs, and the Society is working with FDA to make federal officials aware of ongoing problems. If you are experiencing any shortages in your hospital or practice please visit the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Drug Evaluation and Management’s drug shortages page at http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/shortages/. This useful page contains information on current and resolved drug shortages as well as instructions for reporting a shortage to the FDA. The site also provides instruction for signing up for FDA’s Drug Shortages Email Alert, which notifies subscribers of drug products added to the Current Drug Shortages, and Resolved Drug Shortages lists.

Please report shortages directly to FDA and copy IDSA staff if you are experiencing antibiotic drug shortages so that IDSA can investigate these shortages further. IDSA is collecting data on antibiotic shortages as part of our initiative to spur antibiotic development.
