The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) represents physicians, scientists and other health care professionals who specialize in infectious diseases. IDSA’s purpose is to improve the health of individuals, communities, and society by promoting excellence in patient care, education, research, public health, and prevention relating to infectious diseases.

The HIV Medicine Association of IDSA represents physicians and other health care professionals involved in HIV/AIDS. It promotes research, education, quality care and prevention of HIV and provides a forum in which professionals from various disciplines can share their experience and expertise.
Advocacy and Representation
Recognizing the urgency of antimicrobial resistance, IDSA is working to optimize and document the appropriate use of antimicrobials.
Key objectives are promoting the value of ID consultative services to patients and health care systems and advocating for increased coverage and reimbursement for ID services.
IDSA is a strong supporter of federal funding for biomedical research and the adoption of science-based government policies on immunization, infection control and other areas related to infectious diseases.
The Society’s public policy agenda includes quality microbiology, bioterorrism defense, HIV care and food safety.
IDSA is a founding partner in the National Network for Immunization Information (NNii), which provides the public, health professionals, policymakers and the media with up-to-date, scientifically valid information about vaccines and immunizations.
The Center for HIV Quality Care conducts policy research on the care of HIV/AIDS patients in Medicaid and other health care systems.
Affiliated state and regional societies provide forums to address infectious diseases issues at the local level.
