Postdoctoral Fellowship Award in Infectious Diseases

Deadline: November 7, 2017

The IDSA Foundation is pleased to offer the Postdoctoral Fellowship Award in Infectious Diseases. This one-year award of $30,000 will provide funding for outstanding research in any category of infectious diseases, either through clinical or laboratory investigation. Preferential consideration will be given to research on investigations relevant to advancing our understanding of antimicrobial resistance and that advance the optimal approaches to antimicrobial stewardship. The candidate must be conducting research or working in a recognized and accredited US institution of higher learning or in a government agency.

Candidates for the IDSA ERF Postdoctoral Fellowship Award must have a medical or equivalent doctoral level degree, and must be enrolled in an accredited fellowship in infectious diseases.

Award Amount: One-year award of $30,000

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants and their sponsors must be members of IDSA for 2017.
  • Candidates for the IDSA ERF Postdoctoral Fellowship Award must have a medical or equivalent doctoral level degree, and must be enrolled in an accredited fellowship in infectious diseases.
  • Selection of awardees includes consideration of each applicant’s commitment to:
    • clinical and/or laboratory investigation
    • the research program envisioned by the applicant

Reporting Requirements


If selected for the IDSA ERF Postdoctoral Fellowship Award in Infectious Diseases, the recipient must:

  • Submit a two-page, single-spaced report at the conclusion of the award. A manuscript submitted for publication in scientific, peer-reviewed journal, resulting from work accomplished during this fellowship, may be submitted in lieu of the final report.
  • All publications under the award must explicitly state that the awardees’ work has been performed as a recipient of the IDSA ERF Postdoctoral Fellowship Award in Infectious Diseases.

 

Application Documentation

 

 Complete Application Must Include the Following:

 
1. Applicant Letter
The applicant’s letter should outline the research proposal or summarize the research to be 
undertaken for the award period. The summary should state the applicant’s career goals and how this 
project fits into those goals. The letter should not exceed two single-spaced, typed pages; the font should not be smaller than 12 point; the letter should be attached to the application. 

2. Sponsor Letter
The sponsor letter should detail the applicant's qualifications. The sponsor must be a current IDSA or NFID member. 

3. Department Chair or Division Chief Letter
The letter should document the applicant's responsibilities at the institution, institutional commitment to the candidate for the next two years, and future plans for the applicant. The letter should be one page only. 

4. Research Proposal
The proposal should be a maximum of five pages with no appendices;font size should not be smaller than 12 point. References, graphs, and charts can be attached at the end of the proposal and will not count toward the five-page maximum. Abstracts are not required, but if included will count toward the five-page maximum.

5. Budget Itemization
Please include a brief list of your planned cost distribution with your application. Indirect costs are prohibited.  

6. Reporting Requirements for Other Support --Applies to Young Investigator Awards Only
The application should itemize all other funds or resources-whether federal, non-federal, orinstitutional-available to the principle investigator or program director indirect support of the research endeavors. All currently active financial support and all applications and proposals pending review or award (whether related to this application or not) must be disclosed. If the support is part of a larger project, the principal investigator or program director should be identified, and the data for the relevant subproject(s) should be provided.

 
7. Curriculum Vitae
The following should be included in the applicant's curriculum vitae:
    
1.           Date/Place of birth
    2.           Education (schools, dates, and degrees earned)
    3.           Residency (department and dates)
    4.           Other training
    5.           Chronological listing of employment experience and honors
    6.           Titles, authors, and complete references to all publications during the past three years
