In future analyses of physician payment adequacy, the Society urges the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) to not only look at primary care physicians compared to all specialists but also to draw a distinction between cognitive and procedural specialties.

IDSA Urges Medicare to Incentivize Non-Patient Care Activities and Test Coverage of Home Infusions (PDF)

In response to a Request for Information, IDSA urged Medicare 1) to give shared savings programs the flexibility to incentivize infection control and other non-patient care activities which offer the potential to achieve significant systems-level savings and 2) and to conduct a Home Infusion Therapy Demonstration Project.

Following the analysis of survey results that were inconsistent with Medicare's assumptions on the impact of the decision to eliminate payments for consultation codes, a coalition of more than 30 physician groups urged a review of this policy in the 2011 Physician Fee Schedule Rule.
