    IDSA Comments on the CY2016 Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule

    IDSA provides comments on the Medicare Program Revisions to Payment Policies under the Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule for CY 2016 regarding the finalized changes for the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) as well as the changes in the measure specifications that are concerning to IDSA. Additionally, IDSA also comments on improving payment accuracy for primary care and care management services and provisions related to the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and Alternative Payment Models (APMs) specified in Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA).

    IDSA Writes to Senate Aging Committee Ahead of Hearing on Drug Pricing Spikes (PDF)

    IDSA wrote to the Senate Special Committee on Aging ahead of a planned hearing on recent drug price spikes.  The letter distinguished efforts to incentivize development of desperately needed new drugs from recent actions to significantly increase the costs of decades old drugs.

    IDSA Responds to Request for Information Regarding Alternative Payment Models and Merit-Based Incentive Programs (PDF)

    IDSA responds to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid's (CMS) request for information regarding implementation of alternative payment models (APMs) and merit-based incentive payment system (MIPS) called for in the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA). IDSA expresses the challenges infectious diseases specialists face within the current regulatory quality environment as well as recommendations on how to best implement the new MACRA regulations, being cognizant of the nuances of the ID specialty.

    IDSA and HIVMA Engage HHS on Drug Pricing and Innovation (PDF)

    In response to a notice that the Department of Health and Human Services was convening a forum on drug innovation and access, IDSA and HIVMA wrote to Secretary Burwell to distinguish efforts to incentivize development of desperately needed new drugs from recent actions to significantly increase the costs of decades old drugs.

    Medical Groups Call for Changes to the Meaningful Use Program (PDF)

    IDSA has cosigned onto a letter commenting on MACRA funding for the development of quality measures and technical assistance to small practices. The comments stresses the importance of federal funding to support quality measure development and funding for technical assistance to help small practices and medical professionals to comply with impending federal reporting mandates.

    IDSA provides comments on the Medicare Program Revisions to Proposed Payment Policies under the Physician Fee Schedule for CY 2016 regarding the lack of applicable quality measures to the ID specialist, the need for improving payment accuracy for primary care and care management services, incident to service billing requirements, the physician compare website, physician quality reporting system (PQRS), value-based payment modifier (VM), quality and resource use reports (QRURs), the merit-based incentive payment systems (MIPS) and alternative payments models (APMs) provisions within the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA), and permissible ID physician compensation activities within the healthcare system.

    IDSA Asks House Committee to Strengthen Medicaid Reimbursement of ID Services (PDF)

    Ahead of a planned hearing on strengthening and sustaining Medicaid, IDSA wrote to House Energy & Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Health leaders to offer information on the impact of ID physician reimbursement on patient care, public health, and research. The letter also made recommendations to improve reimbursement of infectious diseases physicians.

    IDSA Endorses Medicare Coverage of Home Infusion Therapy Bill (PDF)

    In letters to House and Senate sponsors, IDSA endorsed legislation to allow Medicare to cover home infusion therapy services. Currently, private medical insurance plans typically cover such services, but Medicare does not.
