"To reduce rising hepatitis C virus associated morbidity and mortality in the United States, CDC recently published recommendations for a one-time HCV test for all persons in the United States born during 1945–1965 (i.e., baby boomers). On January 11, 2013, DVH, the CDC Foundation’s Viral Hepatitis Action Coalition, the American Association for the Study of the Liver, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America co-convened a panel discussion on the implementation of this new HCV testing recommendation. Designed to obtain input from medical provider organizations, the meeting was attended by over 60 people representing 23 health care provider organizations (including those focused on primary care, specialty care, and specific ethnic populations). The dialogue was productive and the feedback was overwhelmingly in support of helping facilitate implementation of the new testing recommendation. To continue the conversation regarding the groundwork and support needed to implement HCV testing on a national scale, additional panels involving other key stakeholders are planned for 2013."
