  • Young Investigator Awards

    Eligibility Requirements 

    • Applicants and their sponsors must be members of IDSA for 2014.
    • Young Investigator Awards are for junior faculty members only.
    • Candidates for Young Investigator Awards must have a medical or equivalent doctoral level degree, and should not be more than four years out of a training program.
    • Candidates must be assured of a faculty position at a U.S. institution.
    • Selection of awardees includes consideration of each applicant’s commitment to:
      • clinical and laboratory investigation
      • the research program envisioned by the applicant 
      • creativity, originality, and excellence in prior performance
       
    • Priority will be given to qualified investigators without active grant support.
    • Researchers with R01 grants are not eligible for Young Investigator Awards, but those with K grants may apply.
    • The awards are provided on a competitive basis.


    Reporting Requirements

    If selected for a Young Investigator Award, the recipient must:

    Submit a two-page, single-spaced report at the conclusion of the award. Young investigators who receive two-year awards will be required to submit a one-page, single-spaced progress report at 12 months. Failure to do so will result in the delay or discontinuation of the award. A manuscript submitted for publication in scientific, peer-reviewed journal, resulting from work accomplished during this fellowship, may be submitted in lieu of the final report.

    All publications under the award must explicitly state that the awardees’ work has been performed as a Young Investigator Award recipient of IDSA ERF and NFID. Acknowledgement must also be given to the sponsor supporting the award.
