Didactic LecturesHands-on Experience

The Program provides training in hospital epidemiology through:

Didactic LecturesContinuity Clinic1 month dedicated rotation in hospital epidemiology, infection control, and antimicrobial stewardship. Attendance at annual fellows' training course in healthcare epidemiology, infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship.

The Program provides clinical experience for fellows in the following:

Infections in marrow transplantInfections in solid organ transplant patientsInfections in travelers and tropical medicineInfections in childrenContinuity clinic for HIV+ patientsFungal infections, diagnostics, therapeuticsSexually transmitted diseasesViral Infections (non-HIV), including HSV, CMV, VZEmerging pathogensInfections in burn patientsExperience in outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy clinic and elective experiences in HCV clinic.

The UTSW Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training Program provides outstanding opportunities for clinical and research training.  The faculty has diverse interests and is dedicated to proving a nurturing and progressive environment for multi-disciplinary research opportunities and outstanding clinical training in all facets of infectious diseases.

 

The program's training is enhanced by collaborations and research opportunities within the institution including:

  • UTSW Center for Translational Medicine (including Masters of Clinical Science program)
  • UTSW Center for Patient-Centered Outcomes Research
  • Center for Autophagy Research
  • Center for Genetics for Host Defense
  • Links with Departments of Microbiology and Immunology

Opportunities for transitions to faculty positions include the Disease-Oriented Clinical Scholars Program and the Endowed Scholars Program in Medical Science.
