Governance Structure
IDSA’s governance structure strengthens alignment, improves transparency, and creates clearer pathways for decision-making across the organization. The model ensures that committees, councils, communities of practice, and leadership bodies work together toward shared strategic priorities.
Key elements of the governance structure:
- Board of Directors: Sets strategic priorities and provides oversight.
- Executive Committee: Guides leadership actions between board meetings.
- Strategic Councils: Oversee major portfolios such as Advocacy, Community Engagement, Education, and Science.
- Committees & CoPs: Drive operational work and member engagement.

IDSA Committees
IDSA committees provide strategic guidance and expert insight across core areas of infectious diseases. These groups shape policy, develop clinical and scientific resources, lead advocacy efforts, and support member education and engagement.
Coordinates the execution of the strategic plan. Identifies and/or approves opportunities within existing strategic priority areas.

Chief Executive Office
Provides strategic direction to the Board and Society on advancing IDA&E priorities and ensures ongoing focus and integration of our Roadmap and Strategy recommendations.

Senior Director of Education
Responsible for developing, organizing, and delivering the scientific content of the annual meeting, IDWeek. The committee ensures that the meeting reflects the highest standards of scientific quality, relevance, and diversity, and that it meets the educational and collective objectives of attendees. The meeting must also advance the mission and strategic goals of the partner organizations.

Vice President, Meetings
Ensures that IDSA’s journals portfolio supports and contributes to the Society’s strategic priorities, helps IDSA stay abreast of publishing trends and the scholarly publishing environment, and ensures IDSA's journals remain the leading journals in ID.

Works with IDSA staff to develop and implement efforts to improve the quality, safety, value and efficiency of ID care and services. Activities shall include: overseeing IDSA's portfolio of clinical and practice guidelines, standards, measures and other quality products; providing expert input to guide the development of white papers and other published resources related to ID practice and quality of care; identify, review and provide feedback on emerging issues related to ID practice.

Senior Vice President, Strategy
Works with IDSA staff to develop and implement public policy and advocacy objectives to advance strategic priorities and initiatives set by the IDSA board, for example: strengthening the ID workforce and ID compensation, combating AMR and strengthening the antibiotic/antifungal pipeline, and enhancing pandemic/outbreak preparedness and response.

IDSA Subcommittees
Subcommittees provide deeper focus on specialized topics or emerging priorities within broader committee portfolios. These groups help develop guidance, lead technical reviews, support scientific updates, and advance targeted initiatives.
Working with IDSA and HIVMA staff, serves as lead IDSA/HIVMA interface with assigned high impact congressional representatives, senators and their staff and promote advocacy opportunities to the IDSA membership.

Monitors and advises IDSA staff on issues related to ID coding and payment, including Medicare and other third-party payer policies to improve coverage; develops resources on coding and documentation of ID care and services; and serves as IDSA's Specialty RVS Committee, as required by the RUC's guidelines for specialty societies.

Communities of Practice (CoPs) connect members with shared interests or clinical specialties. CoPs foster collaboration, peer learning, rapid knowledge-sharing, and clinical problem-solving across the ID community.

Education Program Coordinator
Supports clinical educators in their teaching endeavors, catering to all types of learners. The community emphasizes the importance of fostering and advocating for career development on a clinician-educator pathway, which includes facilitating medical education scholarship. Furthermore, the CoP aims to educate other IDSA members about the significance of medical education, aiming to attract the most talented individuals to the field.
