Training Program Directors Community of Practice

The Training Program Directors Community of Practice brings together leaders responsible for training the next generation of infectious diseases physicians. This community is designed for current ID training program directors and associate program directors overseeing ACGME-accredited adult infectious diseases fellowship programs.
The TPD CoP serves as a national forum for collaboration, shared problem-solving and leadership development across all aspects of ID fellowship training. Through peer engagement and partnership with IDSA staff, the community supports program leaders in navigating accreditation requirements, curriculum development, recruitment challenges and evolving workforce needs, including through curated training program director resources maintained by IDSA.
Aligned with IDSA’s strategic priorities in education, workforce development and pandemic preparedness, the TPD CoP develops practical resources, convenes national meetings, and advances initiatives that strengthen ID training programs and the future infectious diseases workforce.
Workgroups and volunteer groups
The TPD CoP advances its work through dedicated volunteer workgroups, each focused on a core area of training program leadership and support.
Provides strategic oversight and coordination across all TPD CoP activities. This group monitors national trends in ID training, reviews and approves workgroup initiatives, and helps guide the overall direction of the community of practice.
Develops, curates and disseminates curricular and educational resources for ID fellowship programs. This includes core curriculum frameworks and guidance related to educational best practices and training pathways.
Supports the operational aspects of leading an ID training program, including recruitment processes, program administration, and best practices for new and established program directors.
Monitors workforce trends and develops initiatives addressing recruitment, career pathways, and barriers facing international medical graduates and other underrepresented groups in infectious diseases.

TPD CoP Workgroups
In addition to joining the TPD CoP, eligible members (ACGME ID APDs and PDs with active IDSA memberships) may apply to serve on TPD CoP workgroups. Workgroup participation involves a more active time commitment and provides opportunities to contribute directly to national initiatives related to fellowship education, recruitment, operations and workforce development.
Workgroup recruitment occurs periodically and is announced through MyIDSA and IDSA communications. When applications are open, interested members may apply through the MyIDSA volunteer sign-up form.
Joining the TPD CoP does not automatically enroll members in a workgroup.
