Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists Joins IDWeekTM

SIDP to be the Fifth Partner in the Premier ID Meeting

Arlington, VA—October 3, 2019—The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) welcomes the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists as a partner in IDWeekTM, the premier scientific meeting for infectious diseases professionals. SIDP becomes the fifth partner in IDWeek, joining IDSA, the HIV Medicine Association, the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America. The partnership will begin with IDWeek 2020.

With its mission of advancing the professional, educational, and research interests of pharmacists and other allied health care professionals in the infectious diseases area, SIDP is a natural fit with the other meeting partners and will join their efforts to work collaboratively to develop educational, informative and engaging program sessions.

“ID pharmacists are a crucial part of any infectious diseases team, whether that team be focused on clinical care, research, public health, or education. Adding SIDP to the excellent group of professionals designing a rigorous educational program for IDWeek is a logical step in the continued growth of the meeting,” said Cynthia Sears, MD, FIDSA, President of IDSA.

“SIDP's partnership in IDWeek formalizes the united goal of pharmacists and our multidisciplinary colleagues to advance the science and practice of infectious diseases and elevates the platform of pharmacists within the annual meeting. We applaud the leadership of IDSA, HIVMA, SHEA and PIDS in unifying the practice of infectious diseases. Together, through education, research and innovative practice we will improve the care of our patients,” said Kerry LaPlante, PharmD, FCCP, FIDSA, President of SIDP.

IDWeek offers sessions in a breadth of scientific areas, including pediatrics, HIV, multi-drug resistant organisms, tropical medicine, virology, immunology, diagnostic microbiology, antimicrobial stewardship, infection control and prevention, outbreak surveillance and much more. Attendance at the meeting has grown each year since its inception in 2012, this year drawing over 8,000 professional attendees.
