IDSA Releases COVID-19 Diagnostic Guidelines

The Infectious Diseases Society of America has released 15 recommendations to assist clinicians, laboratory personnel and policy makers in decisions on the use of SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic testing for people with and without symptoms of COVID-19. Recommending diagnostic testing for all symptomatic individuals and selected  testing among those without symptoms of COVID-19, the guidelines also highlight continuing research needs.

Based on available evidence, which remains limited, the guidelines are not intended to supplant the judgement of physicians in addressing the needs of patients or specific clinical situations.

The recommendations join previously released IDSA guidelines on COVID-19 treatment and management and on COVID-19 infection prevention for health care personnel, and will be updated as information on tests and increasing test availability continue to expand.
