IDSA Garners Support for Increased Federal AMR Funding

IDSA members and the Stakeholder Forum on Antimicrobial Resistance (S-FAR), which IDSA convenes, are urging Congress to support increased funding for federal antimicrobial resistance programs in 2021.

As a result of our advocacy, 73 Representatives, led by Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-NH) and Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA), sent a letter to the House Labor, Health, and Human Services  and Appropriations subcommittees calling for increased investment in federal antimicrobial resistance programs. These include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, and Strategic National Stockpile

These investments would support increased antimicrobial stewardship, prevention and surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and research plus development toward new infection-fighting medicines. We will continue to advocate for full funding for AMR programs as the appropriations process moves forward this year.
