IDSA CEO Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences

IDSA congratulates Chief Executive Officer Jeanne Marrazzo, MD, MPH, FIDSA, on her election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Marrazzo joins 252 leaders in academia, the arts, industry, journalism, philanthropy, policy, research and science elected in 2026. 

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences honors excellence and convenes leaders from every field of human endeavor to examine new ideas and address issues of importance to the nation and the world. Under its charter “to cultivate every art and science which may tend to advance the interest, honor, dignity, and happiness of a free, independent, and virtuous people, the Academy’s work has helped set the direction of research and analysis in science and technology policy, global security and international affairs, social policy, education, the humanities and the arts.

Nahass, MD, MHCM, FIDSA. This well-deserved honor reflects her extraordinary contributions to infectious diseases research, public health and patient care, as well as her unwavering commitment to scientific integrity. Dr. Marrazzo’s leadership comes at a pivotal moment for our field, and this recognition underscores the impact she continues to have in advancing science and improving health worldwide.” 

Dr. Marrazzo joins a prestigious list of past and current leaders including George Washington, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Jonas Salk, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela and more. Her contributions to the field of medicine and her commitment to protecting the health of the global population are well-deserving of this high honor.  

Dr. Marrazzo is an internationally recognized infectious diseases physician, researcher and public health leader who most recently served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health before her appointment as IDSA CEO in January. A gifted communicator and educator, Dr. Marrazzo has been a prominent voice for the infectious diseases community, frequently providing expert insight into transmission dynamics, public health measures and the sustained strategies needed to prepare for and respond to infectious diseases threats. She is recognized for her work in HIV prevention, sexually transmitted infections, reproductive health and the genital microbiome.   

The Academy will induct its newest members at a formal ceremony Oct. 10 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
