Clinician Educator Coaching Program

Program overview

The Clinician Educator Coaching Program connects early-career faculty and final-year fellows with experienced ID clinician educators for individualized career coaching. The goal is to provide focused, external guidance on topics relevant to clinician educators.

Now in its ninth year, the program has helped participants gain valuable perspective, expand their professional networks and develop actionable career plans.

Coaches will be matched with one advisee and asked to participate in a one-hour coaching meeting, either virtually or in person around the time of IDWeek 2026. Coaches will receive their advisee’s CV and a brief individual development plan in advance to help guide the conversation.

Coaching conversations are tailored to the advisee’s goals and current career stage.

  • Career planning and advancement
  • Educational scholarship and promotion
  • Leadership development
  • Navigating institutional challenges
  • Work-life integration
  • Building a career as a clinician educator

Unlike mentoring, coaching is designed to provide focused advice on immediate career needs and does not require a long-term commitment.

Testimonial

“I was able to meet with an infectious diseases physician who had spent a large portion of her career in a very similar clinical setting to the one I was entering. The first year out of fellowship can be strange and stressful, but learning from her experiences gave me invaluable perspective as I navigated my own career path. I am very grateful for her time and for the existence of the Clinician Educator Coaching Program.”
