Statement on request for funding Ebola response
Last Updated
June 29, 2026
Additional funding to address the Ebola epidemic in Central Africa is critically needed to save lives and contain the current outbreak. The Administration’s request for this funding is an important step in restoring the United States’ reputation as a global leader in protecting people from infectious diseases.
However, providing funds solely to the State Department fails to reflect the reality that responding to an outbreak requires coordination across many agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response. These agencies provide the scientific expertise needed to ensure that investments in the Ebola response have the greatest possible impact.
