Geeta Sood, MD, ScM

Geeta Sood, MD, ScM, is an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University and a medical director in epidemiology at the New York State Department of Health. Dr. Sood trained at Temple University and then joined the Albert Einstein Medical Center as an associate program director and student clerkship director in internal medicine in Philadelphia before moving to Abington Memorial Hospital, where she was the hospital epidemiologist. She was recruited to Johns Hopkins University in 2011 as the hospital epidemiologist at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where she led several successful process improvement interventions, particularly in the burn intensive care unit, for which she received the Armstrong Clinical Excellence Award in Patient Safety in 2015. Her research has focused on quality improvement and risk factors for hospital-acquired infections and on using large datasets to predict and ultimately mitigate the risk for developing health care-associated infections.
