Kap Sum Foong, MD, FIDSA

Kap Sum Foong, MD, FIDSA, is a staff physician in the Division of Geographic Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Tufts Medical Center and assistant professor at Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Foong earned his medical degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia School of Medical Sciences and completed his internal medicine residency at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Pennsylvania and his infectious diseases fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. His clinical and research interests focus on advancing antimicrobial stewardship and improving access to care, particularly for underserved populations such as long-term care residents. His current work applies implementation science methods to improve penicillin allergy evaluation and delabeling strategies in long-term care settings, optimizing antibiotic use and enhancing care delivery. Dr. Foong collaborates with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health on statewide stewardship initiatives and works to translate evidence into practice across systems of care.
