Luis Del Carpio-Orantes, MD, is an internist and clinical virologist. He is a member of the Mexican Society of Virology, the World Society of Virology, IDSA and the Spanish Network for Research on Long COVID, or REiCOP, and leader of the study group for the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 in Veracruz, Mexico. He has written several scientific articles and books on COVID-19 and long COVID, from population characterization to improvements in clinical diagnosis and treatment and prevention proposals. Dr. Del Carpio-Orantes has participated in international clinical studies of the antivirals nirmatrelvir, ensitrelvir and bemnifosbuvir, as well as the COVID vaccines Medicago and Patria. An author of several IDWeek abstracts from 2019 to 2023, he has also been a peer reviewer of abstracts submitted to the conference. He is a member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society.
