MarkAlain Déry, DO, MPH, FACOI

MarkAlain Déry, DO, MPH, FACOI, is an infectious diseases physician whose work centers on outbreak response, health equity and public health communication. He has contributed to health care responses across diverse settings, including the Ebola epidemic in West Africa, post-earthquake Haiti, Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, the war in Ukraine, hantavirus on the Navajo Nation and Lassa fever outbreaks. His work integrates front-line clinical care with a sustained focus on structural inequities that create the conditions for outbreaks and shape their outcomes.

In New Orleans, Dr. Déry co-founded 102.3 FM WHIV-LP, a community radio station dedicated to human rights and social justice. He also founded two Ryan White Part A clinics and served for seven years as Medical Director of a Ryan White Part F AIDS Education and Training Center grant, during which his work examined how social and structural forces drive disparities in HIV care and outcomes.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Déry produced daily public health updates for the Pacifica Network and developed a series of educational animations addressing U=U, PrEP, hepatitis C, long COVID, mpox and clinical trials, among many other topics. Across platforms, his work emphasizes equity, challenges abuses of power in health care and policy, and highlights the lived impact of structural inequity.

Dr. Déry remains committed to advancing care for infectious diseases through both clinical practice and transformative health communication.
