On behalf of the Core and Scientific Committees, we would like to introduce you to the HIV & Hepatitis in the Americas Congress. We are delighted to bring you the Congress which has a unique regional focus, and evolved in 2013 from the HIV Glasgow Congress. The 2019 congress will be held over 4-6 April 2019.

Our key aim in establishing this Congress was to bring together practising physicians and other healthcare professionals who treat patients on a day-to-day basis with a view to improving clinical practice and the lives of patients. We have invited investigators from all the Latin American region to the Congress, in order to share ideas and results, and to promote research dissemination and create networking opportunities. The Congress Scientific Programme is developed to provide state-of-the-art information on HIV and hepatitis, as well as the opportunity to discuss regional issues and challenges in the treatment of patients, focussing on public health, and clinical and basic science agendas. We are delighted to be working in collaboration with the International AIDS Society (IAS) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), as well as the International Antiviral Society-USA (IAS-USA).

The Scientific Programme offers a selection of plenary sessions, round table discussions and interactive case study-based sessions. Time for discussion within sessions, which has increasingly become of value to delegates as the Congress has evolved, is allocated to ensure that the key issues in the region are aired and addressed. The inclusion of the hepatitis agenda within this 3-day programme was considered an important development in 2015, and continues to be a part of the Scientific Programme. Important features of the Congress are the Scientific Posters and the Exhibition Area, which provide excellent opportunities to meet with colleagues, and to informally discuss data and generally embrace the nature of this Congress.

With the intention of continuing to develop the enthusiasm and momentum already gained, we encourage you to take an active part in the Congress and make the most of discussions, networking and other opportunities that present themselves.
