Antimicrobial Resistance Committee

To advance through public policy and advocacy activities the development of new antimicrobial agents where unmet need exists and the reduction of the occurrence of antimicrobial resistance; to make recommendations to the Board of Directors about how the Society can best further policy and advocacy efforts in these areas; to prioritize for government relations staff the federal funding needs; and to serve as IDSA’s primary point of contact for matters under its charge with Congress and the relevant federal agencies represented.

Clinical Affairs Committee

To monitor, develop and make recommendations to address issues related to infectious disease clinical practice; to monitor and make recommendations to address issues relating to the practice of hospital epidemiology and infection control; to monitor and advocate with Medicare and other third-party payers appropriate coverage and reimbursement for infectious disease services; to develop and make recommendations on providing products and services to improve the practice efficiency of infectious disease clinicians; to identify and suggest clinicians to serve on other committees, task forces, work groups and panels convened to develop practice guidelines; and to make recommendations on activities/issues under its purview that involve federal legislation or regulation.

CME Subcommittee

To oversee issues related to the accreditation of all IDSA CME activities, along with IDSA’s re-accreditation process; to review and evaluate all of IDSA’s CME activities to ensure compliance with ACCME regulations and criteria, to include the development of improved assessment modalities to comply with new outcomes-oriented requirements; and to assist and guide future IDSA ACCME re-accreditation processes, to include obtaining accreditation with commendation and a six year accreditation in the next re-accreditation cycle.

COI Ethics Committee

Advances in the field of infectious diseases depend on a collaborative relationship between IDSA members and industry. Conflicts of interest (financial and non-financial) exist in many forms. This committee updates, administers and recommends enforcement actions for the Society’s Conflict of Interest and Ethics policies. The committee reviews COI disclosure forms to determine eligibility for select Society programs and roles (practice guidelines, leadership positions, etc.).

Diagnostic Committee

To use public policy and advocacy to advance research and development of infectious diseases diagnostics and their appropriate integration into clinical care; to provide education on new developments in diagnostics, the appropriate use and interpretation of their results, and their use in clinical care to optimize patient care outcomes; and to serve as a point of contact for diagnostics with Congress and relevant federal agencies, non-government organizations, and international entities.

Diversity, Inclusion and Equity Task Force

The DI&E Task Force will develop a framework and recommendations to ensure the implementation and full integration of DI&E principles throughout IDSA. The Task Force reports to the Board of Directors.

Education Committee

To develop and make recommendations on the development of any new educational meeting, program, or services for members; to establish an ongoing process to get feedback from the membership on their educational needs; to oversee the Society’s efforts to maintain ACCME accreditation; to monitor developments with respect to post-graduate education in infectious diseases; to monitor developments with respect to certification and recertification in infectious diseases; and to make recommendations for activities/issues under its purview that involve federal legislation or regulation.

Fellows Subcommittee

To serve as an advisory group responsible for providing input from a young ID professionals’ perspective to inform IDSA initiatives and committee deliberations; foster fellow, resident and medical student participation and membership in IDSA; and provide feedback on issues related to fellowship training.

Fellows In-Training Exam Test Writing Subcommittee

Oversees the development of IDSA’s annual Fellows’ In-Training Exam. Volunteers write and review exam items, along with ensuring the exam content is up to date.

Finance Committee

Global Health Committee

To promote evidence-based, robust U. S. led policy responses to global infectious disease threats, including HIV, tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance, emerging and resurgent infectious diseases like Ebola, Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya, globally neglected epidemics such as Hepatitis C, and global health security and public health preparedness activities. Advise policymakers about policy and funding needs related to research and development and responses for global infectious diseases that constitute public health threats, including outbreak responses.

ID Training Program Directors Committee

To establish and maintain communication with all infectious diseases academic units with accredited training programs in infectious diseases; to assist training directors, in a manner that is mutually beneficial, with any or all facets of the training program curriculum. Such activities may include, but are not limited to, recruitment to the field of infectious diseases, logistics of candidate selection, curriculum requirements and interaction with organizations responsible for curriculum accreditation requirements and board certification.

Nominations Committee

To oversee the process to solicit candidates for elected offices and director positions; to present a candidate slate to the Board of Directors for approval with the objective of having the elected leadership generally reflect the diversity of the membership; and to make recommendations to the Board of Directors on the nominations and election process.

Public Health Committee

To monitor and make recommendations regarding federal support for domestic and global infectious disease issues; to monitor developments and make recommendations related to childhood and adult immunizations; to monitor and make recommendations related to federal support for the public health infrastructure; to monitor developments related to emerging pathogens and to establish ongoing methods to keep members informed in a timely fashion about important developments; to monitor developments and make recommendations to address antimicrobial resistance; and to make recommendations on activities/issues under its purview that involve federal legislation and regulations.

Quality Improvement Committee

To promote valid performance measures that IDSA members can implement to improve patient care outcomes in infectious diseases; to monitor and respond to the activities and policies of the federal agencies and key organizations involved in quality improvement and performance measurement; to investigate the feasibility of developing a registry for members to report and compare results on standard measures of patient care and outcomes; to provide both online and in-person (via IDWeek) educational resources that will inform IDSA members about quality improvement in general and applicable performance measures; and to approach quality measurement of ID clinical care in a manner that promotes the value of ID specialists to the broader health care system.
