World TB Day Activities

IDSA commemorated World Tuberculosis Day on March 24 with several activities, including the release of this statement calling for continued US support, leadership and adequate funding to respond to the world’s biggest infectious disease killer. IDSA staff joined with other civil society groups to organize a Congressional Hill Day, during which tuberculosis patient survivors and IDSA member Maunank Shah, MD, Medical Director of the Baltimore City tuberculosis program, met with relevant Congressional staff to discuss their experiences surviving TB and treating patients as domestic funding for TB control is decreasing.

IDSA also cosponsored a Congressional reception honoring Congressman Gene Green, who is retiring this fall, for his leadership and work on advancing TB elimination both in the US and globally. Congressman Green provided remarks on the value of ID physicians in particular in the fight against TB.
