IDSA Participates in HHS Lyme Innovation Roundtable

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently hosted its first-ever Lyme Innovation Roundtable. The all-day meeting focused on adapting solutions from innovative technology, traditional pharmaceutical and medical device industry, and other disease areas for use in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease. IDSA Research Committee member, Linden Hu, MD, FIDSA gave a talk on his views on the current and future state of Lyme research and participated in the day’s discussion.

Participants at the meeting discussed how to spur investment in better Lyme diagnostics, how to conduct research and find appropriate treatment for post-treatment Lyme disease symptoms, and how to use EHRs to appropriately make physicians aware of patients’ Lyme risk based on geographic area, time of year, and symptom combinations. This meeting was considered a first step in a continued effort for the agency to focus on advancing technology innovation in Lyme diagnostics, vaccines, and other areas.  IDSA continues to participate in federal meetings and activities on Lyme disease to ensure that efforts are rooted in the best available scientific evidence.
