IDSA News Correction on ACIP PCV13 Vote

In the last edition of IDSA News, the article about the June CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) meeting and the Committee’s decision on PCV13 was incorrect. ACIP voted to no longer recommend PCV13 for all adults 65 years and older who have not previously received it. Instead, ACIP voted to recommend PCV13 at the discretion of the healthcare provider and patient, based on shared clinical decision making for adults 65 years or older who do not have an immunocompromising condition and who have not previously received PCV13. All adults 65 years or older should receive a dose of PPSV23. If the decision is to give PCV13, it should be given first, followed by PPSV23. We apologize for this error.
