IDSA, HIVMA and PIDS Call on Presidential Candidates to Prioritize ID/HIV Needs

In advance of the first debates for candidates in the 2020 presidential election, to be held on June 26-27, over 500 IDSA, HIVMA and PIDS members signed this petition, which the societies delivered to candidates in both parties. The goal of the petition is to educate candidates about the wide range of domestic and global infectious diseases threats—including antimicrobial resistance, the HIV and viral hepatitis epidemics, vaccine-preventable diseases, the current Ebola outbreak, and others—and to urge candidates to prioritize responses, including investments in a robust ID/HIV workforce, antibiotic R&D and stewardship, research, and public health programs in the US and abroad.

We encourage you to attend town halls and other events with candidates to discuss ID/HIV priorities with them. You may share the petition at these events and with your local media. If you are interested in attending an event in your area, please contact Haley Payne at hpayne@idsociety.org.  IDSA and HIVMA staff can provide you with sample questions to ask the candidates or talking points for your use.
