IDSA & ID in the News

The Hill published an op-ed by IDSA Global Health Committee member Krutika Kuppalli, MD, of Stanford University on the complex nature of the current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the need for additional resources. In a region where decades of political upheaval and violence have fueled deep-seated suspicion of government agents and outsiders, Dr. Kuppalli writes, more funding is urgently needed to strengthen community outreach, education and engagement and to sustain activities toward strengthened global capacities to prevent, detect and respond to infectious disease threats. Dr. Kuppalli’s op-ed is timely as Congress weighs appropriations for the year ahead. Beyond September of this year, dedicated funding for global health security activities across government agencies will expire.
