CMS Announces Greater Flexibilities to Help Save PPEs and Mitigate Spread of SARS-CoV-2

In an unprecedented move, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has increased access to telehealth services by loosening nearly all the barriers that prevented clinicians from billing for telehealth services that were performed in various settings. CMS notes that “all Medicare beneficiaries can receive telehealth and other communications technology-based services wherever they are located”. This includes patients’ homes, the inpatient setting, the emergency department, rest homes, nursing facilities and many others.

This move will allow for the preservation of PPEs while limiting physical contact which will then help with mitigating the spread of the virus. For more information and to review the list of the services that may now be performed and billed using telehealth technologies visit CMS Flexibilities to Fight COVID-19.
